The folks we call Congressmen and Congresswomen are elected every two years.
The President of the United States is elected every four years.
Senate seats are up for election every 6 years.
Our founding fathers saw wisdom in staggering our elections for our Federal Government Representatives so a revolution could not take place, where everyone is swept out of office at one time. With every national election we will have 2/3 of our Senators NOT up for re-election.
In my state of Indiana, we will be filling one senate seat with a newcomer as Evan Bayh decided not to run for re-election. I will also not have an incumbent to vote for or against in the House of Representatives since my Congressman resigned earlier this year due to a sex scandal.
It seems like the campaign that resulted in Barrack Obama becoming our President hasn’t stopped.
That campaign was at least 18 months long, and all the talking heads on TV and radio continue to talk about the polls and approval ratings over this and that, stuff that matters and a lot if stuff that doesn’t matter, except they have time to fill.
And due to a combination of over exposure to politics, increased hostility between those with differing points of view, and a lack of positive improvement in our economy, I doubt that voter turn out will be much higher than 25%.
